how does this rank in the all time biggest flops in recent sports history, if you are using just making the tourney as a benchmark?

-Consensus #1 player in High School
-Best overall recruiting class under the Jones tenure

it would be pretty disappointing to know that we had that much talent and didn't get a shot in the tourney.

what would be really wild is that we would hang a banner in the pmac for conference championship and not make the tourney. sounds funny but, hypothetically still possible.

Seriously?? How is that possible? Is the RPI of the conference that bad? I thought conference champs go automatic bids.

If you understood basketball, you would know that won't be much of a flop.

They don't. Win the tourney and get the automatic bid

That's correct, but if we win the regular season SEC championship, we will be in.

Really?!?! Name one other time where the consensus #1 player coming out of high school and that went to college did not make the tournament?

I think it depends on what your expectations were, I expected to be disappointed by this team. Therefore to me, it's not a huge flop, just meeting expectations.

Most likely. Would make that March 5 showdown in Lexington epic.

Would be the biggest disappointment since we had Johnny o' Bryant, Martin, and Mickey and still sucked.

Not exactly what you wanted but its pretty close.

quote:

We looked at the last 10 drafts. Of the 49 freshman selected in the lottery, 45 have come from NCAA tournament teams. Only one came from a sub-.500 team. The remaining three came from bubble teams that were a win or two away from playing in the tournament.

Guess who one of those was...

quote:

The only lottery pick in the last decade to come from a team that was below .500 was: Anthony Randolph from … LSU. (Cue dramatic music.) Anthony Randolph played on a woeful 13-18 team that got the school’s 11-year coach, John Brady, fired.

Considering how LSU started non conference play it wouldn't be surprising.

Were we picked to win the conference like Auburn football this year with a Heisman favorite at QB? LSU basketball would not even be the biggest flop during this academic year.
