This is pretty accurate. LSU Basketball was a different kind of monster for quite some time though under Dale Brown. LSU held the NCAA single-game regular season attendance record for like 23 years and they still have like 3 out of the top 5 largest regular season crowds ever. They broke their own record a few times at the Dome with actual attendance and tickets sold (68,000+ against Notre Dame). It was more than any college or NBA game. It's pretty unbelievable to think about now.

College basketball was more exciting back then though. Players stayed a lot longer, so you had some great freaking teams and great games.
