Ok, so the hot names i've been seeing is Del Rio and Gruden. But the NFL season goes beyond the college season, plus, both these teams will likely be in the playoffs making the wait even longer. I just don't see skip waiting 'til late jan to hire someone.

these are the names that are being thrown out on this board. Not saying there interested. Just trying to put it in perspective for folks who want these coaches

Gruden has toned down all of the college talk. Del Rio is still a possibility, but yeah the timing is bad for an NFL to College move. That's why Cowher is such an intriguing option. Cowher is unemployed (and my personal favorite), but it's a relatively safe bet he's waiting for a good pro job to open up. He can certainly command $4.5 - $5.5 million/year and no college team can realistically compete with that. However, timing would not be a problem as he is out of coaching right now and could come in and start recruiting this afternoon.

First time poster.
I haven't seen any comments or other indications from Del Rio's mouth suggested that he may wish to give up his pro career for a college gig since he considered the LSU job in 2004. Since then, he has gone 12-4 and is now on pace for a similar record with the Jaguars. Del Rio is currently making $3.3 mill per year through 2008, and the current record suggests his job is now stable and that he is in line for a sizeable raise past $3.3 mill. My guess is that Wayne Weaver, the owner of the Jaguars, will pony up more money and offer an lucrative extension if Del Rio returns to the playoffs this year, which almost appears to be a lock.

Plus, this is not a Jimmy Sexton client. Del Rio is represented by Gary O'Hagan. There is an interesting article on O'Hagan here suggesting that he expects NFL head coaches to start making $10Mil+ per year in the near future. With an agent who believes that $10mil is a realistic option, it is doubtful that he would ever recommend that Del Rio leave the pros when his team is winning. If his name keeps getting mentioned and the Jags keep winning, it would be pure posturing.

Gruden will stay with the Bucs.

Del Rio fired O'Hagan when he screwed up the LSU interview. I don't know who represents him now.

John Fox seems to be a good guy, but he is also just signed one of the most lucrative contract extensions in the NFL at $5 mil per year through 2010. I am not aware of any reports suggesting that he wants to walk away from $5 mil per year to coach college ball at a lower salary. John Fox Contract
The agent for John Fox is Bob LaMonte. Interestingly, LaMonte is the agent for many of the NFL coaches whose names keep popping up on this board, including Gruden and Nolan, and an impressive list of assistant coaches, including Mike Singletary. LAMONTE CLIENTS

Fox might opt for an out at Carolina. Richardson is seeing a lot of empty seats and getting rid of Fox now might be mutually beneficial to both parties.
