I think Bryce Jordan was the other catcher during the scrimmages I saw, so I did not get to see Romero in action behind the plate much before tonight. Didn't Romero win defensive awards (gold gloves and shite) at LSUE? I am not saying he's as talented as Paps, but didn't he come here as a good defensive catcher? I ask because others are bashing his catching abilities in another thread.

No clue myself, but the pitchers didn't look willing to waste one in the dirt when Romero was in the game.

I only started this thread because I was under the impression that there was basically an open competition for all positions outside of catcher and center field. And that Mainieri would be rotating through guys until he found a combination he liked.
