I agree with this.

The fact that the 2 campuses are just a few miles apart adds to this.

The one fact I find a bit unusual is that Carolina fans outnumber Duke fans in NC by 4 to 1, at least.

Probably because duke is a small private school and UNC is a state school. Duke at least seems to have a larger national fanbase

Most Duke students aren't from NC and they typically leave the state after they graduate. Makes complete sense.

For the most part Duke students are not from North Carolina and when they graduate they leave North Carolina. Same for Wake Forest.
Most "Duke fans" in NC wouldn't be able to find Durham on a map and most definitely have never been to a game at Cameron.
