Bomani Jones - Simmons should stay in school if 76ers have top pick

He's discussing it on his radio show now. Simmons won't have to declare until after the draft order is established, so Simmons will basically know who he is going to play for before he declares.
Jones says it would be better for Simmons to stay in school and hope for a better #1 team since you're likely to be stuck there 7 years.
Forgive my ignorance, but is this always the case where the draft order will be determined before you have to declare?

So you're saying there's a chance?
Posted on 2/11/16 at 5:20 pm to slackster
Should stay regardless of who has the pick..

He could just go to Europe

He could have gone to Europe this year too.

Why? To improve his draft stock?

to not be stuck with the 76ers for 7 years according to this guy.
yes, whoever has top pick is typically going to be a bad team.. but they have historically been bad for some now i believe.. i don't follow the nba though
but i mean they are so bad, they probably be in the same position after right?

Celtics have the nets pick so it's possible he could go there! The celtics are a playoff team! If they some how win the lottery he should go there.

As both an LSU fan and a Sixers fan, this is a win/win. But I am of the belief that within 3 years the Sixers will be at least competing to make NBA Finals...if they don't screw up the draft this year.

Why? the 76ers are going to be in the same situation for the next year. He would have the same chance of going there either year

This is the first year; NCAA changed the withdrawal deadline recently. Lottery is determined on May 17th, withdrawal deadline is May 25th.
All that said not happening. Though if I were him, I would push my way into LA; similar to Kobe.

Well, for one he'll know for sure if he ends up there or not after the draft order is established.
Jones said if the 76ers won the lottery both years he'd just make it very clear he wants to be anywhere but Philly.

Man i feel bad for any player that gets stuck with that shite show. They really are an embarrassment to the NBA. That's saying a lot too.

Umm, no. Staying to avoid a certain team is one thing, but other than that there is no reason the #1 pick should ever come back to school. You'll get significantly better coaching and development in the NBA over the college game. That holds true regardless of your collegiate program, but specifically at LSU/CJJ.
