My co-worker loads kodi onto FireTV devices and recommended the FireTV based on its speed/performance. I figured I might as well go with it since it will be a main hub for my TV setup.

Yes, the Fire TV is your best bet, IMO.
As far as for Vue, the Fire TV is the best bet behind the PS4.
