Tonight we saw what a aggressive, dominant pass rush and line can do to a physically talented but still largely inexperienced quarterback. Cam showed a fair lack of awareness and "qb sense" tonight and truthfully that lost the game. The score differential was composed of his fumbles close to his own endzone, which were caused by a defender he never really was prepared for.

When Denver played Brady, they were ruthless and rushed him many many times. Yes, Brady threw 2 ints and, yes, Brady had gronk to throw to. And New England still lost. But reflecting back at that game, Brady was acutely aware of rushers the vast majority of the time. He was still able to throw for over 300 yards and manage the game the best he could. Some thought cam would handle Denver's pass rush better as a more mobile and physical qb, but he did not- Brady did, IMO. Goes to show how you think and react is still as important, if not more so, than how hard and fast you run at the level of the NFL. JMO.

I dont think its really lost in the fray. A quarterback with 10 extra seasons of experience under his belt, along with being in the big game multiple times, is going to be more aware of his surroundings.

Roethlisberger did a lot better job than Brady. He had two good outings against the Broncos and almost beat the in the playoffs without his best weapon.

I've tried to start this post like ten different times but just can't find the words to express how terrible it is.

Cam Newton was 10x better than Brady. He had like 10 less total yards than Brady on 15 less passing attempts. His only interception was off a dropped pass that was perfectly placed that would have placed Carolina inside the 15 yard line. He had another drop that would have set them up at the 2 yard line. He had another "drop" that was wrongfully called that immediately led to the first sack fumble.

Of the 6 sacks there was one where you could blame Cam for not recognizing where the rush was coming from. The others were his tackles giving him no chance.

They had countless false starts, holds, personal fouls etc... that stopped and killed drives.

Denver's defense made both of them look average and Brady is one of the best QBs ever and Cam has a ways to go but for the purposes of this thread and the games you brought up Cam easily outplayed Brady and it's not even close.

Brady sucked in that game too. Didn't it take him like 60 passes to get those 300 yards?

In watching that game, it occurred to me that the Patriots quick, short passing style is the only way to beat Denver. You can't try to establish the run and throw slow developing play action passes. I was just when Carolina was still running Stewart with a few minutes left.

I thought Brady got bounced out of the playoffs already? Why are we talking about him?

Cam just finished his 5th year in the NFL. I'm not saying experience doesn't continue to accrue, but we're well past the steep curve on the Newton learning curve.

That's the double-edged sword of the Cam phenomenon. He normally attacks the defense, not the other way. Either he was hurt or they took a terrible gameplan into the game - he didn't attack the defense, he didn't change the game with his feet. The 1 14-yard scramble in the first half was about it for the Cam-type plays. He hit a couple of nice passes but, for the most part, he didn't look like the NFL MVP at all.

I don't think so. The playcalling was pretty awful and his receivers didn't play very well.

Cam didn't have a great attitude, and that's a legitimate knock on him. I don't think he played poorly, though.

One thing that gets me are all the people who claim Brady would be nothing special without his hof coach even though Belicheck has a losing record without him as a starter (36-44 in Cleveland and 15-18 in New England).

This is why you always take a defense led by an elite pass rush over one led by an elite secondary.

Like, Seattle had a great defense in 2013 and 2014, and even this year. But when your domination is mainly from your back 7, the best quarterbacks in this league still have a shot to beat you. For example, Brady last year in the Super Bowl and Cam this year against Seattle.

Flash forward to this year, Brady and Cam were pretty much helpless and doing everything they could just to avoid getting sacked on every play against Denver. Obviously, Denver has very good cornerbacks, but their defense is certainly driven by that pass rush.
