While not what I was hoping to hear, it sounds like this is my current path unless I stumble upon something.
Get the i5 that ILikeLSUToo recommended and follow the rest of his instructions. If she will be working from home after her residency, even at a minimum, you'll be glad you did.

Would this unit work assuming it is as advertised?
Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p Tiny Intel Quad i5-4570T CPU 8GB RAM 120GB SSD Win10 Pro - $310
I don't need much in the way of storage since she isn't supposed to store patient info on the computer anyway.

Hey, that's not bad. Granted, that low-wattage i5 won't give you true i5 performance and is overall outperformed by an i3. However, the per-core performance is on par with regular i3s and i5s -- though maybe a little lower still as I imagine this i5 in the small footprint is either passively cooled or very minimally, but I think it'll do just fine. Curious why it's selling so cheap on eBay, though, so the "assuming it is as advertised" is a major contingency. At least eBay has strong buyer protection.

It also has a iGPU and not a dedicated. Don't know if that makes a difference or not. Probably not but worth noting.
I like it.

Nothing in his price range would have a dedicated GPU.

I'm a little worried about the ports and the wifi. I don't think it has built in wifi so I guess I can just get a usb adapter. Bigger concern is the display outputs. Either DP or HDMI is fine as a 32" tv is my monitor but if it's only usb I might have an issue.

first post!
i3 4170 (3.7ghz), 1tb hdd, 802.11ac wifi, hdmi, usb 3.0, 4g 1600 ram
10.5" x 4" x 14.5"
$299.99
same price at newegg
get rid of the bloatware it ships with and add another 4 gigs of ram.

I know this topic has already gone off the rails...so slight hijack.
I need a budget solution for my office. I need a device that I can run to my TV to access one website to stream video of meetings/hearings . It doesn't have to do anything else.
I know I can mirror the video from my office computer or phone through a Firestick, Chromecast, etc. But I'd rather not have the video playing on my primary devices in the background.
Would a Chromebox or Chromebit be a realiable solution?

Nah, just messin. I ended up ordering the Lenovo Think Centre M93p I posted earlier. Just hope it's legit. I'll update when it comes in.

They ended up cancelling the order and I've been looking for a comparable deal ever since.
What are y'alls thoughts on this set-up?

Not too bad for the price. The CPU is a little weak for a non-mobile PC. Comparable to an older laptop i5 or i3. But that probably won't matter at all for your usage. I still use a laptop for productivity with an even weaker CPU.

Is it on par with the i5 from the other unit I was looking at?

Relative to that AMD, the i5-4570T is faster per core (probably much faster, considering that i5 is actually a desktop CPU and has a higher IPC and higher clock). But, it more than likely won't matter. CPU is almost never a bottleneck in basic applications.

Thanks. Good to know. I'm hoping the SSD and 8gb RAM allow the Mrs. to do what she needs to do without too much trouble. She is currently utilizing my ASUS t100ta transformerbook with a 32gb ssd, 2gb RAM and a Intel® Bay Trail-T Quad Core Z3775 Processer and it is working so I'm thinking this new set-up will be a nice upgrade.
