Cushenberry, future of O line

A respected coach down south said that Cush is VERY underrated. He staked his rep on him being better than Allen, Hes being compared to Trai T, he's very strong, explosive, great knee bend, very athletic. Center/ Guard for us....In two years now Grimes has brought in 10 OL(Domond included)... We are set up to have great competition at every spot as these guys mature. Only the elite OL won't get a Redshirt. Most wont be in the mix to play til their RS So season which means a mature player at every spot. That competition & maturity will give us very good/deep o lines every year. Awesome job by Grimes rebuilding our O line very quickly

One thing I noticed from the Bama game last year was their NG pushing our center back into the backfield, which caused Fournette to have to go lateral. Having a "stouter" center could be helpful with that...

I like him at center.
I'm fine with that if he's a smart kid. Gotta have brains to be center.

Despite what some illiterate people think in here, I am not saying he's dumb or smart. I don't know either way. Just mean he needs to be smart if he's a center. You over sensitive folk are just awful.

They got lower than 6'7"/6'6" Pocic and that gave them leverage to push him back. Its hard for a guy that tall to get the low leverage on a guy 4 inches shorter than him, stronger than him, and heavier than him.

at this point, he has the same opportunity as others. if he can transit from hi school to college and work hard he may indeed be a hell of a player. sometimes the less recruited players, esp on the line, are more coachable and surpass the highly rankded studs.

That's why it drives me crazy when I read Pocics best spot is center and he should stay there. The Bama game is a perfect example of why thats ridiculous. A 6-7 310 LB guy CANT move a 6-2 325-335 lb guy lined up right over him. Its a simple leverage issue. Pocic is so talented, that in most games he's still very productive but against the best, I wouldn't say he's exposed, just that the disadvantage was too great to overcome. I hope with his injury he's still able to move to OT this year, think he could be big-time there

Lost in the somewhat collective disappointment over the number of linebackers we don't have - this is an overlooked bright spot going back a couple of cycles - after struggling with depth issues on the OL going back to Saban - for the first time - in a long time - I'm confident we could field 2 full lines - if we absolutely had to. Guys like Pocic and Clapp have come along and played where they could, played early and crosstrained. We've taken guys who played hard at Tackle in HS and made them NFL guards. We're probably still a little short on pure OTs, but this is as good as I've felt about the best 5/6 on the OL since 2011 and as good as I've felt about overall depth of the OL in over 10 years.

I totally agree. Grimes has definitely done his job. We used to have a few very good to great guys on the O Line, but little depth. Every year it seemed like guys had to be shuffled to plug holes, but like you said, there will finally be a solid 2-3 deep at every position next season.
Now It isn't a disaster if we end up with a bust here or there, or if one guy goes down. Grimes can also go after high upside projects now, like he did with Allen and Cushenberry this year. We can afford to wait a couple of years for them to contribute.

I agree. Seems like Pocic is more of a left tackle body.

Wtf are you talking about?
I didn't say he was dumb. I made it clear I don't know either way, just that a center needs to be smart, so if he is, great.
What is wrong with you people?

This kid is a huge hidden/underrated gem.

Anyone that just looks at his video should be able to see his ability...crushing blocker! He will play before Allen and even sooner than most think...jmho

Man, I don't think so. I think we not only have pure OTs as starters (Pocic and Weathersby?), we also have some pure OTs as backups (isn't Chidi supposed to be an OT? And George Brown's dimensions certainly scream OT.)

Also KJ Malone can be serviceable.
Really wish pocic could have worked at left tackle this spring and not be out

In all fairness to Pocic, Robinson blew everyone up. Mike D has said time after time after the first play when he saw Robinson lift Pocic off his feet and push him into Fournette that we were in trouble.

Seems like Pocic would be a good fit at RT. Not sure who plays LT. Brown or Chidi, or could Willie play there as a true frosh?
