Glock and Taurus aren't the only two manufacturers in existence you know. There are tons of other quality options out there.

I have never owned a glock because I didn't like how it felt in my hand! But my buddy bought the G43 and I loved how it felt.
I'd recommend shooting at least 50 rounds through the G43 and an equal number of rounds through the 9mm Shield -- on the same range trip. At that point you should have a reasonable basis for picking one over the other. Both are excellent weapons (considering that they are both in the mouse gun category).
p.s. There will never be a good reason to buy a .40 caliber Taurus.
