Oh here we go...another know it all in the mix gonna tell me how unimportant my college basketball experience is. Look I agree it doesn't make me an expert but it certainly gives my perspective on Johnny Jones a little more credible than the average Joe.

Just not compared to Blanton or Larry freaking Byrd
So it's a basic logical fallacy with the way you've used it. Got it.

Well your hating on JJ for dancing after a game was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen posted on here. You said any coach that dances after a game is the coach of a poorly coached team. Then I used Dabo Sweeney as an example to show how dumb you.
Then you preceded to tell us that Ricky Blanton doesn't know anything about basketball because he played for Dale Brown.
But since you were a walk on at Gulf Coast Community College you have forgotten more basketball than Dale Brown, Johnny Jones, Ricky Blanton and Shaq will ever know.

I don't have a problem with it....it's just funny in the context you used it.

There was nothing wrong with the context I used it, but please expand.
I'd love to hear this one
Let me help you out:

And you're moving to the far block with an easy look off the backboard,
And your response:

Wow I made a point that Johnny Jones dancing after the first conference game of the year leads to lost respect for the coach and that's the dumbest thing you've ever heard on this board?
You made a comment about Debo and I was on road so I couldn't respond. Let me do that now. Debo has gained the respect of his players and although he may or may not have danced after a win he certainly demands effort and efficiency....and if he doesn't get it he get's in a players arse....big difference from JJ.
On the subject of daddy Dale yes I think most would agree that although he was a fantastic recruiter and motivator....he lacked certain fundamental coaching qualities that kept his unbelievably talented teams from being great.
And lastly, like I said I didn't play where you think I played....and certainly didn't walk on or ride pine brother.....lettered every year....but then again as you guys say nobody gives a shite I know.

It's really, really dumb.

And it's pretty obvious that he wasn't joking, despite trying to play it off that way.
I think he knows how dumb it is

Dude that's just a funny statement....I don't mean to make fun but it just is....especially when I think about the question that I asked that led to that statement...

Acting an arse in front of a team that already doesn't respect you doesn't help things.

I was sort of joking...it was half hearted....but yes there is some truth to it. Disregard it as "idiotic" as you would say but it's my opinion. K guys...as much as I'd love to do this all day I have a job. Late.

I've heard the exact opposite of how the players feel. You have a friend who didn't even work for the basketball team, just the athletic department...and it was at UNT. So really you have ZERO idea how these players feel about Johnny. But you're passing it off as certainty

I'm disappointed that Ol' Boy had to go dig some ditches because I wanted to see what POS school he played for.

I used to coach soccer, and Blanton's kid played. After last game of the year he comes up and thanks the coaches and say his kid loved it blah blah blah. I go "Oh man, Ricky...you're a legend." Now, I'm coaching soccer so he's probably taken aback that I know who he is. So I go "Yea, I used to work for the team under Brady." He starts laughing and goes "Oh, John?? Oh man, bet you have some stories. You know, we have a different John now and he's 180 from Brady. His players LOVE him and will run through a wall for him. I've always respected and loved the guy, and it's an honor I can work with him now."
The point of this post is this: I'm a complete stranger to Ricky Blanton. I said nothing about being a season ticket holder, or LOVING LSU basketball...just that I worked 1 year for Brady. Ricky proceeds to go on and on about how much the players and everyone he comes in contact with love him.
With all due respect that is a good story and I apologize if I offended you. Ricky does seem like a good dude although based on his analysis on the radio I do sometimes question his knowledge of the game (that's neither here not there though and only MHO)
Now back to the point...Getting effort out of your players is only one facet of coaching....and it can be accomplished in different ways. The players may very well love Johnny and they may very well "run thru a wall for him". However, they usually run thru the wrong wall....hence, the effort is usually wasted.
Not to change the subject but a few weeks ago when Dave Aranda was hired and he used the term "smart aggression" to describe his defense everyone on this board started masturbating....because even under Chavis LSU defenses have been aggressive but sometimes over pursued or were terribly out of position.
Unfortunately this term is the exact opposite of LSU basketball at the moment. They play in a helter skelter sort of way without movement on offense and without much team discipline on defense. They may play "hard" but there is so much subjectivity in that analysis that I don't even really know if people understand what that even means.
So, that's why I say that loving your coach and playing "hard" for him doesn't always translate into wins.
