I mean if we make the 8 seed fine. Whatever. But if we make the 8 seed because Demps is going to hold onto all our players to save face even if it is clearly the wrong long term move to make because this will never be a championship roster as is, then I'm gonna be pissed.

the right long term move is to hold on to all the players and have cap space in the offseason to start over ideally without Dell. He should be fired regardless. It's a really good time to start fresh with the cap space available.

it's all a shitty situation because here's where you're caught. do you tank now and then not know what gentry can do with a little time? then what, fire him? that's a lot of money to shell out. or give him next year and maybe he is actually shite no matter the roster and it's another year of the same?

or do you let him play through the rest of the season and see what he can do before firing him or keeping him, based on the results? then you may not get a pick in the 7-10 range, but that's a crap shoot anyway (maybe less so this year because that could be a Buddy Heild or Valentine type player).

Regardless, you're kinda in no man's land right now. I think the next few games will be telling before the break. You have 4 games against playoff teams. the teams they beat the last few weeks are all shite teams, which is good but doesn't prove much. If they can go 5-2 (beat Lakers, Wolves, Jazz, split with Memphis, Spurs, Cavs, and OKC) in these next 7, then you don't tank. if they are 3-4 and can't beat any playoff teams, you tank, fire dell, and let the new GM decide if Tom wants to buy out Gentry or go from there.

I wish Demps actually took a note from Bower who actually didn't make desperate moves when his time was clearly up.

My optimal situation would be Demps trading Anderson and possibly Evans(Gordon seems unrealistic at this point with his poor play and injury) to open up more cap space and bring back some draft picks and maybe cheaper long term role players.

Any players shouldn't be high risk though. They should be guys that could be moved if a new GM needed it fairly quickly.

Just waiting til the offseason means you basically concede any value for trading Anderson and the slim possibility of Gordon.

EDIT: to your next post. To me there is zero value in maximizing this season and doubling down. Even if we beat most of those playoff teams I don't think it would be anything but false hope. We aren't getting out of the first round barring major injury to the top 3 teams before tip off in a series.

You're probably taking back longish term contracts to move Asik and probably Gordon

You probably will get a 17-20+ pick for ryno and and maybe a decent cheap wing

Its smarter to trade tyreke in the summer when teams miss out

People thinking you can blow it up all at the same time are very foolish

And what type of players "fit" around AD? You might think a guy fits on paper but in reality it doesn't work that way sometimes.

Fit is subjective from person to person.
