The last time I lived in Lafayette was 2004, I'm sure a lot has changed since then. My main concern is finding a good school and daycare for my two young kids. I'm not totally opposed to private schools, but the wife and I would prefer a diverse, well performing public school, if such a thing exist.

Lafayette High is your best bet. I'm not sure how diverse it is.

Elementary schools - Broadmoor and Woodvale are the best elementary schools. Green T. Lindon in Youngsville is pretty good too.

Lafayette High is fairly diverse for sure.

David Thibodeaux STEM Academy is really diverse and a good school. Kids have to apply to get in.

Take a look at Myrtle Place Elementary.

It's a good school in a nice, older, established neighborhood off of Congress near downtown.

Woodvale or Broadmoor elementary Schools correspond with good to great middle schools and the best high school in all of Lafayette. Look in the Rivers Bend( I know no comma, but that is what the sign says), if OT rich look in Fernwood or off of West Bayou Pkwy.

Myrtle Place isn't a good school and right on the fringe of the hood.

All of the elementary schools in Youngsville are good schools. Middle school is ok. I think the new charter school may have middle school and a new high school is about to be built. Of course, my kids go to private school, but we started that long before news of a proper high school broke (avoid comeaux high school). Also a new catholic school k-8 will be built soon too. Check zoning maps. Avoid Broussard.

2 ways to rate them:

(1) Those with metal detectors

(2) Those without

Alleman, Paul Breaux, Edgar Martin, David Thibodaux all are good middle schools. Alleman is probably the best school in the parish.

I know a teacher there who I think highly of, so my opinion is different.

Bigdab wants diversity, so I'm giving it to him.

Plus MP is in White Subdivision, which is the oldest "nice" hood in Laffy. Way before West Bayou was a thing.

That neighborhood has been well maintained by its residents through the many decades, who by the way, have been dying off, and lots of new young families like the OP are moving in.

Prepare for sob stories galore. The poor town is flat broke. I quit making sales calls down there it was so depressing. Tons of good real estate and truck deals to be made though

Don't live in Lafayette. Move to Youngsville or Broussard. Thank me later. I'll meet you at Corner Bar and you can buy me a beer for this solid advice.
