I think South Louisiana folks are extremely closed minded when it comes to outsiders. If you aren't from there, you're not "one of them."

I hate that many people feel this way about the area. I've lived here my whole life and became good friends with guys from England, South Africa, and New Zealand in college. I also married someone of both Honduran and Italian descent and my brother married a Korean woman. I've always been interested and even fascinated by people from other areas, and I grew up in Henderson The people I associate with on a regular basis are just as open minded. You simply have to be willing to ignore the ignorant in any area and not rush to judgement about an entire area.

I'm from Baton Rouge, and unfortunately I always felt like Cajun people never really liked me very much. I lived in Lafayette for a few years, and worked in the oil field with a lot of Cajuns. I thought they were really funny people but I just never fit in with them at all.. Some were very nice, but just seemed insincere I guess..Like they knew I was an outsider. Probably because I look and act differently than them.
