If you feel like someone is always "up in your business" in a city with a population of over 120,000 and a MSA over a quarter of a million, you're either paranoid are doing something terribly wrong. Not suggesting there aren't people who fit your description, but not an entire city filled with them. Like any area, it takes time to find people you like and to avoid those you don't.

Or I know a shitload of people in Lafayette, including people who are in positions to know everyone's shite, and I'm always hearing the million or so gossip stories floating around town.

Lafayette could be one million strong and it would still have a very Maybury feel in that regard.
