This sounds like something I would be very interested in. Do you have any specific recommendations on where to stay/eat/play on a vacation there?

St. John is beautiful! 3/4 of the island is a national park. Not very commercialized.

Two major resorts Caneel bay and Westin. Caneel bay is extremely laid back, cottages no tv electronics, etc...think celebs and adults no children.

Westin nice, accommodating but has a family vibe...but still Americanized.

Take day trips to Virgin gorda, necker island, Tortola, soggy dollar bar.

Fly into st Thomas take ferry over is a breeze. Can shop at st Thomas if you care.

Have been to Martinique, Caymus, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Nevis and St. John is my favorite for sheer beauty, snorkeling and nice people.

Good luck!

I have been to Caneel Bay once and stayed in a villa twice. Both experiences were great and had their perks.

This summer, I am actually going to the Bitter End Yacht Club in Virgin Gorda. If you stay for a week, it is all inclusive except for alcohol. Included is food, but more importantly all water sports, daily BVI excursions, and use of their fleet of 150 boats. I plan on doing an excursion every single day. Can't wait. I think in total the BVIs are better than the USVIs, but if I had to pick one island only, I would pick St. John without question.
