I wasn't expecting great things this year, but didn't think it would be this bad. 34 and I went back and forth comparing notes from seasons past when the storm hit, we really thought they'd do better. I figured SAVs would take a pounding, and with early rise the birds would move back north and hit the flooded fields. We are off Brady canal and water had been 1 -1.5' above normal for most of the season. Feed is there just too deep for the puddle ducks to access. Same thing in Venice when I went between Xmas and New Years. We only killed good birds when we walked into flooded marsh and hunted. We closed out season in terrebonne killing a ton of ringnecks. 4 teal, a mottled and a can. We could have literally shot a thousand ringnecks In a day. Go 3 miles south and guys weren't firing a shot and had the same habitat. Old timers said it was worst they had in 40-50 years hunting down there, by far my worst down there.

We haven't had a good duck season at our lease (we are across Bayou Chene from Avoca Island) in about 5 years. The 30 or so years I can remember before that were just dynamite. I grew up limiting every time we hunted with quality birds greys, wigeons, teal and sometimes even a pintail. But in the last 5-6 years it has gone to complete shite. The marsh looks as good as ever. Plenty of feed, ponds are clean. I just don't understand. This season the high water made it deplorable.
On another note, our deer season in north Choctaw Co. Mississippi was also terrible. We hunt along the Big Black River by Eupora. That too has been on a steady decline over the past 5 years or so.
