Your actual plan is cheaper on the next plan vs the subsidized 2-year plan. Either way, you are still essentially financing the phone. Either pay $200 every 2 years to upgrade and a higher monthly plan or pay a lower plan then finance the cost of the phone interest-free for 18 or 24 months.

Surely they are doing away with this completely nonsensical option, too, right? Previously, the only reason to take the subsidy would be if you're on an old plan that doesn't penalize you for it (and disguise it as a discount). I think 2-year contracts are gone for good now.

I just changed to Next. On some plan with the wife. plan costs did not change. So, instead of getting a $99 phone and rate A, I am paying off a $600 phone plus the same rate.

so what's the deal with NEXT, if you upgrade before the 18 or 24 months, you pay the difference of what you owe on the phone?
