Well, the dual threats didn't pan out so great, did they?

Here is some history for you. Perilloux would have played through the 2009 season. Lee and Jeff would have had time to develop, and be at least better than they were. It would have then looked like this:
Jefferson 2010 junior - crowton left
2011 Jefferson / lee --- mett on team---- here is when qb fell off. Stu wasn't recruiting anyone!!!
2012 mett - only took three years for les to figure it out and bring in cam.
2013 mett - first year with cam
2014 Jennings --- should have been a qb that was recruited in 2010/11
2015 Harris-should have been a redshirt freshman and backup.

See how that works? Isn't all Perilloux, it was also the stu years. With that said, still one of the best 5 teams through that in college football.

Well said and totally true . Perriloux was a major factor in what has happened with the QB position. We need to overcome this with some strong recruiting of multiple QBs and establish LSU as QB U

Nah, I think Les always tries to get the best recruits. I think this is a normal end of recruiting cycle and Franks fooled them. I think Les should recruit and sign 3 or 4 QBs a year. No chest, go elsewhere. QB's from Louisiana are more often than not good athletes and will contribute to the team. Having said that, you have P5 schools offering our 2,3,4 star QB's. It has to be a daunting task to decide who to offer and who to let go. Did we need Brossette and Guice? I am glad we got them,
and can you imagine the outrage if they were excelling this year at another school?

I hope he does, but I think Harris can do well the next couple of years.

Clemson lost becauuuuuuuuuussssseeee:

1. Busted coverage on TE (Defensive issue)
2. Busted Coverage on WR (Defensive issue)
3. Onside Kick (Special Teams)
4. Kick Return (Special Teams)

Take any one of the above away and Clemson wins. WHHHHHYYYYYY??????

Because the Offense scored 40 against a defense that we can't score 20 against.

I gotta say. That this post may have shifted my thinking on QB development. A paradigm shift. Interesting...

I understand what you are saying and your point is noted as the possible beginning of the QB troubles on Miles timeline. The loss of Perriloux unquestionable hurt us that season and the next but, I refuse to accept that with his loss we have been unable to get another QB ready in the next 7-8 years.

Our QB problems are a result of:
1) years of Miles' inability to assess and hire an OC that could recruit and develop QBs. There should always be capable back-up ready to play whether it be due to injury or graduation. This has been our biggest problem.

2) Miles hitching our wagon to a QB that had no business playing for us much less in the SEC and riding with them out of loyalty until they graduated. I consider this problem has possibly caused some issues with recruiting also but it could be that the staff has totally whiffed on QBs outside of Mett and Harris.

Fwiw, I like Miles and if I ever have a son would want him to play for him. Unfortunately, he got a bit complacent and he has had some lazy offensive hires. We are finally headed in the right direction but we have to quality QBs on the team that are the ready next man standing.

This is part of the delusion that keeps us behind Bama. Are we really blaming our current QB woes on a mercurial talent from 8 years ago? Please stop this...it's embarrassing. So the 2015 OSU squad, just accidentally happened to hit on 3 QBs within a 2 year period who could have started at any college, but LSU has been just plain unlucky in finding 1 in 8 years (aside from Mett...and enough cannot be said that he was actually coached up before he got here). And exactly what would have happened if Perrilloux stayed? He would have made the back up QBs better b/c he was such a stand up guy on and off the field? Don't the very odds you point out (about not having an SEC caliber QB) mean he could have easily just been another under-developed LSU QB? This makes me cringe almost as much as the "we have more 10 win seasons than..." diatribe, as though we can hang that on a banner in TS.

Not because of their offense, which scored 40 points. Bama won because of special teams play. Not because their offense outplayed Clemson offense or their "pocket passer" QB outplayed Clemson "dual threat" QB.

It wasn't just Perrilloux. We swung for the fences with Gunner Kiel and missed HARD... and the "depth" quarterbacks that we did sign decided that they didn't want to be depth... I'm talking about guys like Jerrard Randall, Stephen Rivers, and Hayden Rettig.

What happened this year with Patterson (Ole Miss) and then Franks (Florida) is regrettable, and despite interest, it seems like Haskins is headed to OSU. While I agree with another poster than Brandon Harris will make or break Les's next contract, it cannot be overstated how important Russo and Narcisse are to the next two recruiting classes.

Being able to develop McMillan over time is just as important, especially if we don't land a guy in this class who can play in 2-3 years. He's essentially our version of a Blake Sims or a Jake Coker.

The only huge sense of urgency Les gets is about a half hour after polishing off a big plate of white beans with sausage. Don't get your hopes up.
