Civilian lives in Fort Bragg barracks for months

Army officials are trying to figure out how a civilian managed to live for several months at Fort Bragg, eating and bunking with special forces operators despite not being a member of the military.
The unidentified man, who a source told FoxNews.com is mentally ill, was found out last month, and has been questioned. The source said the man told the real soldiers he lived among that he was a demolition specialist and exempt from the daily activities they took part in.
"This is a very unique and interesting situation," Thomas McCollum, the garrison public affairs officer for the North Carolina base told Military.com.
The Fayetteville Observer reported at the time that a 3rd SFG spokesman confirmed that the civilian had a fake Common Access Card and had been found living in temporary barracks. The unidentified man allegedly got away with the ruse for months by claiming he was attending a top-secret school on the base.
The source told FoxNews.com he was finally snagged after he attempted to purchase items at one of the stores on the base and was unable to provide proper military ID.
My favorite part of the whole article.
“I don’t think they [Fort Bragg officials] want to bring any more attention to this incident,” the person added, referring to how the man was released without any charges.
Maybe because this makes them look pretty bad? BTW, for those who haven't spent time at Bragg, besides 3rd SFG and 82nd Airborne, Delta also has their compound on Fort Bragg. You would think security would be a bit tighter seeing as that we are, you know, at war recently.

Well the fact that there are so many secret squirrels running around authorized to wear civilian clothes and not talking about where they've been or what they're doing probably works against them. Ol' boy couldn't have gotten away with doing that in a line infantry barracks.
Hilarious that it took a PX cashier to catch him.

Actually kind of smart. Rent free, foods free, get to hang out with SF all day long. I don't know if I am more impressed with the dude or with the complete lack of security.

That dude might be the best operator they have, get him back.

Yes he could. I knew dudes that had wives and girlfriends living with them in the barracks.

Maybe he was a operator and is now on his way back to whoever planted him there.

That's all that needs to be said to explain this.

Reminds me of the civilian guy over a decade ago at Fort Lewis who faked his way into 1st SF Group. Dude was a civilian and ended up training with those guys for 6 months. Reported to the group with all the "right" paperwork and what not. Can't find a link but damn if it wasn't completely bizarre how long his charade lasted before someone found out

I am sitting at my computer laughing out loud thinking about all those stolen valor videos and how those guys were getting called out because their boots weren't bloused right or some other small detail.
...and this guy goes for months living in barracks without getting figured out.

DELTA DOES NOT EXIST!
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DELTA !
There are occasional special purpose missions done by special missions units. That's all.
