thank you. I swear I'm not retarded
that's what I did a couple days ago. I plugged a cat 5 (?) cable into Ethernet port 1 on the router and into my computer
the internet went down. I thought it was possibly a coincidence. but then someone posted in this thread that would make the internet mess up
frick it, i'll just watch shitty streaming. besides I think my stepdad took my cable because I was gonna take a pic and can't find it

eta maybe your stepdad used the cable to fix the wifi you broke. superglue works best but in a pinch he could tie that cable around it to hold it together.

It was a coincidence. Don't listen to them. One tube goes from the modem to the WAN port on the router, and you don't ever change it. The other Ethernet ports on the router are fair game for your computer.
