Currently considering both of these 4k TVs in either 55’ or 65’ to replace a 7-year-old Samsung 50’ plasma in my living room. Both sets are within $100 in price on Amazon.

Independent reviews have both TVs highly rated with the Sony having slightly better scores. I’ve always bought Samsung but the reviews have me questioning my decision.

Living room setup is a little less than 10 feet away from the TV with a large window directly behind the seating area (blinds/curtains are in use 90 percent of the time, but still a fairly bright room during the day). Primary use will be for sports and streaming content.

A couple questions:

1. Anyone have experience with either of these TVs?

2. Its obvious, but both the 55’s are significantly less expensive ($700-$800) than their 65’ counterparts. I view this purchase as making an upgrade and am leaning towards moving from the 50 to 65, especially sitting 10 feet away. I’ve consulted the viewing distance chart and trying to justify the added expense of a 65.

3. Which one would you choose?

Sony

Samsung

I would wait a couple of months. All the manufacturers just announced their new lineups at CES 2016

I sell both, I'd buy the Sony, but you can't go wrong with either. Prices should be really good right about now.

Both 55s are listed for right under $1000. The Sony is about $1700 and Samsung $1800 for the 65. Samsung does sell a 60 for around $1200 which is also in consideration.

Any other recs in the $1500 range, give or take $100. Not a fan of Vizio, had a bad experience.

I really want to snag a nice 2015 set when they start trying to push them out in favor of the 2016 models. When should these price markdowns start happening?

They have already come down and should drop even more after the Super Bowl.

I cross shopped these two for a long time before Black Friday. I was split but liked the Sony better in store as well as Samsung was $200 more. I also noticed big price difference between the 55's and 65's. When the sales were announced the Samsung was $100 cheaper and I pulled the trigger on JU6500. I think I paid $1500.

Overall Im pleased but its not worth the $2300 msrp or however much, glad I got it on steep discount. Im most displeased with the motion rate lag during sports. The 4k is 4k and picture is good. Viewing angle is great and glare minimal. I like the Samsung menus and smart menu. One surpsing thing since my last Samsung is that it has the One Connect or whatever that is called (Im not sure if Sony offers this). Its a remote box/hub that you connect all inputs and outputs and only one main wire runs to the TV. This makes for clean installs where you can hide wires.

We bought that Sony 55 in August. I did a descent amount of research and liked the Sony better, also I was replacing a Sony Bravia 40 in from 2007 that worked great.

The TV is excellent, descent smart TV, easy to connect. We bought the Sony sound bar also w ARC-HDMI, makes it pretty easy to add devices.
