Mainly because they're so overused by announcers, analysts, and other sports media types. For me:
Running downhill- describing just about any running back
Dialing something up- describing any play call that a team uses

"He does it for free" when talking about professional players.

Jesse Palmer says "3rd and California" a lot when it's a long 3rd down play.

"They have a 'next man up' mentality."
The talking-heads act like this is some new development, as if teams used to just walk off the field after a player got injured and no one was willing to take their spot.

Pretty much everybody other than a guy like McCaffrey. Herbstreit must have said it 20 times during the Alabama/Mich St game Trickeration was cute when Rece Davis started it, now everyone overuses it.

Not recent, but physicality and trickeration make me want to pour acid in my ears.

I'm watching the Under Armour game and all these kids are "taking their talents to...". Damn you, Lebron.

In football when there is any type of bootleg or roll out throw for the qb, I can't stand when they credit the play caller for "changing the launch point".

This is where the defense wants them/ the offense wants to avoid Third and long situations.
Well, no shite.
Not a recent commentary, but it's one of those many times commentators speak just to hear themselves talk.

It should be The Louisiana State University and A&M College
I'm tired of people calling certain games a "Trap".

"_______-Gate" to describe any controversy. It is the worst, so unoriginal. ESPN is the worst about it.
Also "Natty" instead of national championship. That retard Dabo said it in his interview the other night.

"He'd still be running"... never mind the safety waiting to drill him 5 yards further down the field.

"Trickeration" ... not a real word.

If you start noticing how often a talking head starts his sentence with "when you look at..." when describing a player, it will start driving you insane.

Low center of gravity

If you think about it and pay attention, 90% of live commentary is just bullshite.
"Manning loves having a receiver with good hands"
"This is what this defense wants. 3rd and long"
"This offensive line wants to open holes on these running plays"
Last night was pretty good. Palmer said, "they need to play Iowa football. Control the line of scrimmage and make positive plays." What the frick is that? Does any team not want those things?
