This defensive hire buys him the room he needs.
Cameron is probably here to stay. Which could be seen either way. We'll see next year.

The best I've felt about the program in some time now. Even more so than the bowl win.
Was waiting to see what they would do with this situation. I like the hire. Now get the offense flowing.

It's pretty common knowledge that Alleva handcuffed last year's search with only offering a two year deal and the Miles clause.
This is a huge reason King and Joe should be fired. I get the we want to not have to pay out the arse for buyouts but its incredibly stupid to try and force him to be fired by cutting him off.
It didn't happen like that. Steele was one of Les' top choices all along.
Nola.com reporting that Aranda was the top choice last year and he balked at a two year deal and the Miles clause. Pendergast and several other big names had offers on the table but wouldn't sign Alleva's shitty contract. Steele fit most of the criteria, but he was the underwhelming plan D that would take a two year deal and allowed Orgeron and Raymond to be on staff.

Les in good shape now, I think. Now, if we went 7-5 in 2016, I think he'd be terminated on January 1, 2017. But I see us doing much better than 7-5 or even 8-4. We COULD be 10-2 or even 11-1 if BH improves and we get Beckwith/Pocic back for 2016.

Miles can do whatrver he wants. He is bulletproof.

Nope he isn't bullet proof. Everything you stated is true but it is real simple next year he has to produce. He has to win a MINIMUM of 10 games and that will just probably save his job for one more year if he wins just 10 games. He needs to vie for an SEC west title and SEC championship. If he doesn't do that then watch how fast the media will turn on him because they stood up for him. if he finishes 3rd/4th in the SEC again you will see people jump off his bandwagon.

Uhh, no. If Fisher said yes, he would be gone. FSU had plenty of time to up the ante quite a bit.

Who has the authority to green light a $20mm buyout and a new contract for a HC? Aleva and Alexander have already said Miles is their guy, they can't go back now without serious cause.

I think he had his near death experience and it changes him for the better....

Won't be that much next year. If Miles comes in 4th in the SEC West again and LSU does another nose dive in November and goes 8-4 or maybe even 9-3 "especially if those 3 losses are to Bama, Ole Piss & Arky" again yeah he will be in deep shite. This is a business plain and simple and when you have the highest paid staff in College football and a head coach that is on of the top 10 highest paid coaches in College football finishing 4th in the SEC west 3 years in a row will not cut it. If they had the funds raised to buyout Miles this year, if he finishes 4th in the west again next year he will be bought out. No way he survives another 4th in the west again next year.
Now personally if we have just a little bit of improvement out of Harris next year I think we win 11 games maybe more. So I think Miles is here for at least another 2yrs and probably longer which is what I am hoping for.. But if LSU finishes 4th in the west again, he is done and maybe even 3rd in the west gets he bought out.

He isn't bulletproof, but certainly has wrestled power away from Alleva, e.g., Aranda contact, etc. and appears to be back in charge of his program. You can't underestimate the impact of the behind the scenes dysfunction (Alleva) in the program over the last couple of years.
Still, Les must not only win, but get back to being truly competitive late in the season.

After 2016 season it is $12.9million for just Miles
Miles plus the rest of the Asst Coaches would be >$15million
Aleva and Alexander don't have that much political capital unless the program falls apart and firing Miles is an obvious fait accompli

Don't know what your point was really but I will try and make mine a little clearer. Miles cannot finish 4th in the SEC west again next year without it costing his job plain and simple. Unless something catastrophic happens and the so many of our key starters get hurt and the press says "it is unbelievable that LSU finished 4th in the west with all those key injuries" he won't survive another 4th finish in the west.
The fans that backed him "like me" during this years fiasco won't be able to defend him next year if he finishes 4th. And the media will start to turn on him also, just watch and see.
Understand I don't want that, I want Miles to be here for years to come but he has to produce like he and his staff are getting paid and the plain fact is for the past 2 years he hasn't.

quote:well he could be Franklin, Sumlin, or Strong....
a head coach that is on of the top 10 highest paid coaches in College football finishing 4th in the SEC west 3 years in a row will not cut it
Les is 9th in salary btw... He may be lower next year depending on what Miami is paying Richt, or any other coach getting a raise.
quote:depends... Does a team go undefeated with a team only losing 1 game and LSU and another losing 2? That is a blanket statement without knowing how the division plays out.
But if LSU finishes 4th in the west again, he is done and maybe even 3rd in the west gets he bought out.

Aleva and Alexander don't have that much political capital
That is where we disagree.
If Miles finishes 4th or worst in the SEC West next year they will have all the political capital they need and the money also. If they had the money from the boosters to buy him and the staff out this year, they will have it next year when it is less.

I agree with you it is a blanket statement. But if we lose 3 SEC west games again next year and finish 4th again he will be bought out. Yes it does depend on how it goes down but 4th in the West AGAIN next year the boosters will be raising hell and I don't think the media will come to Miles rescue again. Plus Aleva has probably learned by now "loose lips sink ships" he won't let it go down like it did this year. He will make a clean cut "I think" without putting feelers out.

Sigh, this thread. Barring the nearly impossible, Miles is guaranteed 16 and 17.
Posted on 1/2/16 at 11:24 pm to Dudebro2
well we don't lose to Arkansas who is losing Allen, Collins among others and Ole Miss losing their top OL, top Receiver, and possible quarterback
I'm betting LSU goes 11-1 next year before bowls and SEC championships

They just got humiliated on a national stage by the media, Shaq et al
Aleva was gutted by his boss in a very public way
4th in the SECW is not nearly enough damage for those guys to stick their necks out again and face the outcries
Alexander just said they were worried about appearing "mean spirited"
Miles stared them down and they blinked, 4-8 or 5-7 with the wheels coming off gets the conversation started. 3 wins or less, a major NCAA Investigation or Les involved in some sort of scandal might be bad enough for Alexander to reverse course
Otherwise miles is here as long as he wants to be
