Seems pretty logical to raise O up. Would keep him here more long term than just D-line I would assume. Is there any worry about in game play calling? Everyone knows he know his technical stuff and recruits with the best of them.

Look I love Coach O as much as anyone but why in the world would people want to promote someone that has never been a DC before?

It's ludicrous to me.

At some point, every DC has never been a DC.

Yep...I think he was his own DC at Ole Miss.

I think he would be fine at DC. Hire a LB coach that can also maybe coach special teams.

Not when they've been coaching for 25 years. Maybe there is a reason he hasn't been promoted?

I'm not saying the man isn't a great coach and just because he hasn't been a coordinator doesn't mean he can't be a good HC (see Dabo). I'm just saying that if you've never been a DC in college football, LSU shouldn't be your first job.

By that logic all the DCs in the world would have been dead years ago.

That's ludicrous to me.

I get that, but it's not like he's wet behind the ears. He's been a defensive minded coach his entire life... And has been very successful in just about every defensive job he's had. And he has been promoted, to head coaching stints, which I'm sure was what he's always wanted.

He'd be an upgrade to what we've had. Make him DC and get some solid position coaches and I see no issues with that. I do not see him failing at anything defensively. He's bring some fire that this defense needs.

Orgeron would be worse than Steele as DC.

Lsu isn't a program to try out new coordinators. He was one of the worst head coaches ever to grace our conference and his defenses at Ole Miss were an embarrassment.

He's perfect as a DL coach and recruiter.

I disagree with this mentality

we need to be finding talent and elevating it

Guy has been an HC- he is qualified

Okay so Coach O as DC (which I am against) then we have to hire a LBs coach anyway

And the worst one in 2 decades in the SEC.

And his defenses, which he coached a lot of, were awful.

You guys are fricking stupid. Just because he's a crazy Louisiana coonass that can recruit and coach a DL does not make him qualified to run a very complex defensive scheme.

The guy is right where he should be.

Could Clancy Pendergast be swayed away from the 49ers? I remember hearing his name last year and liking his resume. If not, #RideforBebe

before you dismiss too quickly... he currently has a "consultant" job with guess who.... Penn St. He'd be a great college coordinator and would probably work well with O.
