Bill knew that if the Steelers made the playoffs, that would spell trouble for his Patriots, as the Steelers are the only team in the AFC playoff picture that could beat his Patriots. The Jets, Chiefs, and Texans do not scare New England. So Bill throws the coin flip in overtime so that the Jets get the win and essentially boot Pittsburgh out of the playoffs.

That is why the Patriots played "poorly" on Sunday and the debacle ensued on the overtime coin flip. Bill gonna Bill.

If he sees it that way, who could blame him?

You come up with that all on your own?

I could see them fearing the team that was just whacked by Ryan Mallet.

How did he manage to get the game into overtime without simply losing it? He is a genius.

Pats beat the steelers pretty handily this season. The score was close, but anyone watching that game ever thought that game was in doubt for the Pats

If anything, the Jets are much more equipped to beat the pats in January than the steelers, they just gave the Fitzmagic button ready to implode in the worst moment

Other problem with that theory: The Steelers still had to lose to a tomato can and there was no guarantee of that,

How about the biggest problem with that theory - it is pure bullshite.

There was no frick up from the captains and there was no intentional losing from the Patriots. Bill made a calculated move and lost, plain and simple.

If the Steelers are out of the playoffs, there's a chance that the only legitimate starting quarterbacks in the AFC playoffs outside of Brady are Ryan Fitzpatrick and Alex Smith.

No team that the Patriots face this postseason has a full-strength, balanced, or even competent offense if the Steelers are out.

And when the Steelers played the Patriots, their top players were Gronkowski, Edelman, and Dion Lewis. Two of those guys won't be there in the postseason. And the Steelers played without Martavis Bryant, who was serving his suspension. A rematch could be totally different.

That being said, I'm not ready to buy what the OP is selling.

So what you're saying is Brady is afraid of competition.

yes the pats lost intentionally! They were overtime away from locking up home field advantage in the playoffs but said nahhhh lets chance it and lose this game so the big bad steelers dont make the playoffs

If patriots wanted to lose, they would've taken the ball in OT then purposely fumble the ball so NYJ can win. There are cleaner ways to do this.

By the time the Jets and Patriots went to OT is probably about the time the Steelers loss was assured. Gives more credence to the theory iyam.

Did you see what the Jets did to that o-line?

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. There is NO WAY that they lost this game on purpose. There are way too many variables involved. Pittsburgh might still make the play-offs and NE might not get the #1 seed. If Ptt can't even beat the pathetic Ravens in a must win game, how good are they?

I don't think Belichick deliberately tanked. He likes to stick it to the Jets every chance he gets. But the entire AFC benefits from the Steelers missing the playoffs because they are the only team beside the Patriots who can go off at any time and score 40 on any defense.

I think Belichick just saw this as an opportunity to show America how smart he is. He does that often. And if it backfires, so what? Miami is a dumpster fire and it won't be hard to beat them and get HFA after all.
