How does the "spillway" west of Simmesport/Melville/Krotz ever get involved?

The spillway west of Simmesport, Mellville, Krotz Springs, etc. would be used in the event that there was potential for major flooding along the Bayou Des Glaises area due to the Red River or Atchafalaya. If the levee along Bayou Des Glaises would fail most of Avoyelles Parish would be flooded as in the case of 1927. There is a section of levee what they call the Bayou Des Glaises fuse plug that lies roughly along old Hwy 1 that would either be blown up or breeched with machinery allowing the water to flow southward. This would relieve pressure from the levees along the Red, Atchafalaya, and Bayou Des Glaises. If this spillway is ever used the shite has really hit the fan.
