I'm installing two LED light strips in my garage and am trying to tie into the existing single bulb fixture. I pulled the fixture off and the picture below is what I have there. The right side is the hot and the left goes to the light switch. The LED strips come with a white/black/green configuration. What is the proper way to wire it so that the switch functions properly?

Do you have an extra switch that does nothing now?

It looks like that was wired for a ceiling fan (pretty common in garage rough ins) and the White neutrals go together, the grounds go together, and the black is a switched hot for the light, and the red is a switched hot for the fan.

On your fixture you have hot (black), neutral (white),and ground (green).

If no extra switch the black is just a second circuit in the same wire. Leave it capped off and use the red switched hot to connect to your fixture.

Hope this helps.
