My best friend needs help

My cousin is in bankruptcy and he has $3 thousand his grandfather left him. He is telling me he is going to buy a oz of gold and buy a 1 year worth of food that last 25 years for$1,750 from my patriot supply. He is a doomsday type of guy and I'm like dude you are crazy. I told him he just needs to save that money in his house and don't put it in a bank account because he is in bankruptcy. I told him to use that money for a emergency or put it towards bankruptcy to get out of it quicker. What recommendation would yall give him in his situation. He was mad because he said I was in his buisness and telling him what to do but I thought he should save that money. Was I wrong for telling him my opinion as a friend?

It sounds like your friend doesn't want the help. He also seems like an irrational person which may be a reason he is facing bankruptcy.

Thanks I hope he listens but that's his life and his money. I just hope I don't have to say I told you so or he asks me for money lol.

This is one case where "under the mattress" may be the best option.
