Seeing that picture, it's miraculous if no one is injured.

I know plant operator jokes get made on this site all the time. I also know the people who work around hazards know the deal, I sure do.

I've had to call my wife one time in the middle of the night to meet me at the emergency room. It absolutely sucked knowing how scared she was.

I hope everyone is OK there and if they aren't, my thoughts are with them and their families.

Heard the boom, followed by shaking within a second or so. Thought it may have just been Formosa moving railcars again, but that never shakes my control room. Went outside to see all of the fire and black smoke. You never wanna see black smoke.

Really hope no one got hurt. Kudos to all the emergency response team people who got it under control so fast.

Plants probably running on skeleton crews this weekend and next week. About all jobs are shut down for xmas, I only think that operations and maintenance folks are gonna be there.

Not really. Plants are never under staffed for this very reason. It just ends up being people who are younger in the company, with less experience. Still though, Great job by the Exxon ERT members, and their countermeasures for preventing a bigger disaster.

As stated previously. This is one of the major reasons why operator/oilfield trash get paid what they do. Because there is that one instance that you become firefighter, EMT, Hazmat, and the only thing that can keep it from turning into a bigger explosion, or release that can potentially kill thousands.

Really depends on what or if turnaround projects where going on in that unit. Would almost have to think something was going on. I saw flaring going on earlier last night, and isn't rare, but still kinda unusual.

Hopefully everyone is okay. Having trouble finding info on the local news stations.

Looks like there was an explosion. Glad to see that the fire is somewhat contained.

Downshift. The first thing we would do is a head count. Honestly I have no inside information other than seeing the fire right after the explosion. Just going by reports from friends who work there, and what Exxon is putting out.

Honestly having been trained to do this, and knowing the protocol, this is all still speculation.

Just got word he's ok and everybody is accounted for.

This is why I got out of the plants. A cat cracker is a 150' tall bomb.
