The federal budget deficit widened in November, driven by higher spending in such areas as Social Security, Medicare and defense. The Treasury Department said the November deficit climbed to $64.6 billion, up 13.6 percent from a year ago. For the first two months of the budget year that began on Oct. 1, the deficit totals $201.1 billion, a 12.6 percent jump from a year ago. Total receipts are up 2.9 percent to $416 billion over the past two months compared with a year ago, but spending is up 5.9 percent to $617.1 billion. The rise reflects in part more tax revenue as unemployment declines. The latest numbers underscore the impact of paying benefits to a growing number of retiring baby boomers. The report said Social Security spending expanded 4 percent, while Medicare spending increased 9 percent.

If this a battle between generation names, Baby Boomers beats the shite out of Millennials, and also all those shitty Generation X, Y, Z, ad nauseum...

But I have to admit Generation X-box is pretty cool

If you paid payroll taxes by force of law for your entire career, you are due some of that money back. Had you not been forced, you could have earned a much better return investing that money in index funds.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the WWI, Greatest, Silent, Baby Boomer generation's law makers.

I'm sure your dumbass is ignoring that our population growth is greater now than it was then, and that the largest age group of unemployed is the 15-30 demographic and that boomers are working much longer on ever age due to economic uncertainty

If it's a tax, why would you get it back?

Because it's in addition to federal income taxes and it was passed with the citizenry being told that it was being held for them for their income and medical care in old age.

Hell, I'm maxing it out and you better believe I want it back. If I could, I'd sign an agreement that I will not claim any SS or medicare benefits if they allowed me to keep it all.

And, in general, all people should be able to get back as many tax dollars as they can besides those who get the EITC handout.

baby boomers left me with a 10% unemployment rate, fighting two wars, Bruce Jenner, insane health care costs, student debt and a Great Recession and housin collapse. Uncle Sam wishes he would have pulled out instead of spawning baby boomers.

Im making it. But cars, insurance, and college tuition that costs as much as a mortgage is a testament to horrendous money management skills in the past. Rock on.
