Why does it have to be fidelity funds?

Guess it doesnt have to be fidelity funds, but she's already started the process of transferring her IRA from Edward Jones to Fidelity. I told her to choose a target date fund since she's not really going to have the knowledge to sit there and assess her funds every month and change them up etc.
She said she'd like to spread it out over several funds. Can she get into other funds with a Fidelity account? I'd heard good things about the Fidelity contrafund. She's interested in the Fidelity tech fund.
I'm just not well versed on what would be a good moderate risk fund for a 40 yr old.

Fidelity has its Spartan index funds which are comparable to Vanguard index funds:

https://www.fidelity.com/mutual-funds/fidelity-funds/why-index-funds

The Spartan 500 index fund (FUSEX) has lower fees compared to Vanguard 500 index fund (VFINX).

My preference is to buy Vanguard ETFs in my Fidelity account. This is good if you're buying large chunks at a time (couple thousand) so the comission is negligible.

Otherwise stick to the funds. Though u can buy/sell many iShares ETFs on Fidelity for free.
