well if you want the most dishonest set of horsehit, the last 2 paragraphs are great
you understand the whole "diversity" argument, right? why it is promoted and all that
well the author completely lies about it and acts like there isn't some overarching push for diversity on campus and this case is about ensuring we provide opportunities for "promising" minorities and not "mediocre" students like the plaintiff
no school encourages diversity for individual students. the opportunities presented have nothing to do with the religious-like devotion to the concept of diversity on college campuses. the author purposefully ignores this to lie about the prospects of respective youths

Salon must truly believe that standardized tests do not offer equal opportunities to all,
in these discussions you will see people push standardized testing to the wayside
that's why i called it the "Richard Sherman" argument
quote:
or it is somehow the mission of the University of Texas to redress the unequal opportunities between students from poor and affluent districts.
they do believe this
they also believe that it's important to ensure that good students meet "diversity" while on campus because diversity somehow has intrinsic value. when they say "diversity" it almost always means "more black people" and sometimes merans "more latinos", but it never means "more asians"
why? because this isn't about creating diversity (from the dominant white population), as claimed

Then alter your post history....
Or just change the title of your OP, and quote another article.
It was a cute "gotcha" attempt on your part, was it not? If not, you sure did a good job of "fooling" several people who have responded and dismantled the OP.

It goes much deeper than that. This is just one state with one parameter. I sat in on these committees. I knew others from schools across the country and we would share stories. The things I saw and heard. It was just....... Yeah, enough. I'm going to enjoy the comments from here on out.
I am sure it does. I believe admissions should be blind to race.

Yes, I shared my experience in higher ed here several years ago when I almost lost my job. I had the unfortunate experience of, at the time, being the most successful minority recruiter. It was unfortunate because I was white.
When I introduced lists of hundreds of very qualified Asians and Latinos, I had to be "reeducated" on what a "Minority" was, according to the definitions provided by members of the campus NAACP. One of the members whose job I had taken over and nearly doubled his numbers.
That wasn't well received. Instead of thanking me, I then became a "racist". Needless to say, everything I believed at that point got hit with a serious dose of "reality".

Yeah, I don't want to read that. I'm in a great career now and got out of higher ed because of shite like that. I don't want anymore flashbacks today. LOL

Yeah I'll stop pointing out blatant racism that many are known here for.

So I take it you strongly disagree with segregation, jim crowe, and ghettos.
To the extent that any of those were the result of government involvement in the manner in which free people choose to associate, or choose not to associate, yes I disagree.

When mentioning the poorer performing students that were admitted ahead of this girl they mention grades and test scores. However, when trying to claim there were better performing minorities that were also not admitted, salon only mentions grades.
Care to address my retort of the section of the article you so gleefully made the cornerstone of your position?

I merely posted an article. No cornerstone of a position. I certainly did not express glee or any emotion.
I do t know why the article posted mentioned grades only. Does that mean their scores were not also better? I don't know. The fact that her case has been a lost cause or turned down at every venue speaks volumes though.

Not only did you quote that speific snippet of the article, not only did you bold this speific snippet of the article, you also felt it carried such gravitas that you deemed this specific snippet of the article worthy of an underline. And the title of the op speaks to your emotion on the issue.

Yes you do.

Yes you do. Salon would not have passed the opportunity to bring that information to light.

Given the case made it to the Supreme Court, your opinion is quite silly.

That girl isn't hot enough to cause all of this drama...
....not even close.

Except my title did not have any feeling words in it.

I specifically underlined the factual data that contracted with her case. But I guess you know otherwise.

Yes you do.
Merely opinion, an incorrect one at that, in your part.

Clearly you approached this topic with a balanced and measured sentiment.

Because quoting it and bolding it would not convey that you felt it was relevant to the case. The extra step of underlying was purely for ease of reading I am sure.
I do know the weight you placed in these "facts" as I also know these "facts" are intentionally dishonest and carry little weight in this topic. I hope you do now as well.

You honestly don't now see that this conflation of facts was an intentional attempt by salon to distort perception of the case?

Facts are facts and able stand alone. I left out all the conjecture from Salon.

In other words some of the UT claims, parroted by the OP, appear dubious at best. In fact on the face of it, they appear to be an outright lie.
Yeah, I am sure they got one over the courts, including the Supreme Court. We will see what they say this time.
Do you believe out of 8000 freshmen enrolled there were only 47 students with poorer scores than hers?
