This is very true. BoB did an insanely phenomenal job at this.
I still don't see how people can say BoB is overrated. The show literally sucks you in from episode 1 and makes you feel like you are part of the company.
When members of the company died, you felt it. When they were victorious, you felt it. You could even feel the emotion towards the end when people were leaving the company and when the war ended.
Honestly, I feel like you have to watch it at least twice to get a true appreciation for it.
It reminds me of Game of Thrones, in that, there are so many good characters and personalities, that even though it's great the first watch through, you almost have to see it a second time to get everything to sink in.

I wish they'd done a 10 part mini series on the book Unbroken to show the Pacific theatre. The book was so awesome i knew a 2 hour movie could never do it justice.
exactly what I was thinking when I read the book. I never saw the movie.

Such a wasted opportunity....
1st episode= running in olympics, build up to WW2
2nd= Zamperini's time as an air force bomber
3rd=plane crash
4th= lost at sea
5th=captured
6th=POW camp
7th=better make it 2 episodes on the POW camp
8th=end of war, return to states
9th=return to Japan, running with the torch, etc
10th= interviews with the POW, WW2 survivers

I ought to have ya'll shot. The noncoms' salute was a great tribute to Winters' character...
Minute for minute, hour for hour, the best adaptation of a historical book about WW2, or any war for that matter.

You're right about the books. Band of Brothers was based on one book, Stephen Ambrose's very focused look at Easy Co. and The Pacific was based on multiple autobiographies, books and interviews. The Pacific did not have the benefit of a single author and editor to draw its material from. It was very good despite that though.

I'm going to rewatch this series Bc this thread reminded me how good it was.
Also, I loved The Pacific just for the story of John Basilone. Can't find a better example of a true American hero than that.

I watched a movie called When Trumpets Fade today. I think it's an HBO flick. It's about the battle of the Hurtgen Forrest which was probably more brutal than anything Easy company went through but the battle was overshadowed by the Battle of the Bulge which occurred immediately following the Hurtgen Forrest. Over 30K American casualties.

I thought the pacific was just as good as BoB. The battle scenes in the pacific are fricking awesome

BOB is everything everyone has said...
Episode 5 is perhaps the best ww2 documentary/movie making that has ever been shot
that is strictly my opinion though
