It all depends on the universe of schools we're judging ourselves against.

What people are trying to say is that for an elite football school like LSU, with its fertile recruiting ground, lack of legit in-state competition, facilities, money, support, etc., we should be among the top teams in the country most years.

So yes, being ranked no. 20 is nice, if you're Wake Forest, San Diego State, New Mexico, etc.

It's the elite football schools that we're measuring ourselves against. And among those, we're not anywhere where we should be.

And THAT'S why we're mediocre.
