Things to do near NRG Stadium

Are there any cool bars/places to party on gameday around the stadium or is it located in a desolate wasteland like JerryWorld? Will be staying at Crowne Plaza near the stadium.

Not Necessarily next to the stadium, but there are a few cool options to drink before hand and take the Metro rail to the game. Rice Village, Midtown , and Downtown are all pretty popular areas walking distance from the Rail.

It's pretty dead near the stadium. Your best bet is to party in midtown or downtown and take the MetroRail down to the stadium.

The area is very limited, but its hard to beat the location of the Crowne Plaza. The best bars will be downtown & Midtown. Lots of fans will stay at downtown hotels & take the metro rail to game. However, the Metro was a cluster F after the 2014 Kickoff Classic so you have been warned.

There is not alot of partying very close to the stadium. If you're just looking for booze and bars, take the train downtown. However, very close to the stadium, is the art museum, kids museum, natural science museum, zoo, golf course, and shopping/eating in Rice Village.

There is nothing worth your time that way. Stay off of 59 near Kirby (close to rice village, galleria, montrose, midtown) and a reasonable uber ride. If not, stay downtown.

Cancel your stay at that Crowne Plaza and move to a hotel downtown. There are bars and restaurants downtown/midtown and you can catch the light rail to and from the game.

I am also staying at Crowne Plaza adjacent to stadium. At least it has a bar. We'll probably just pre-game there. Like others said, train transportation was a cluster after the Wisconsin game. I heard stories of people walking a mile to be able to grab a taxi or to get the to next train station. Uber rates were like 20 times normal. Best to stay close to NRG on game day.
Stayed at the Holiday Inn on other side of stadium for Wisconsin game. Not a lot to do around there, but plenty restaurants nearby on Old Spanish Trail and Main Street. We tried out Pappa BBQ last trip and it was very average. Looking at map, Play Action Sports Bar & Grill and Fat Boys Bar & Grill are close by (walking distance).
Fat Boys looks decent. Happy hour M - F 2:00 to 7:00!

Get so fricked up from huffing gold spray paint that when you walk to the 610 walk ramp overpass you still see astroworld standing in front of you.

Rice Village (shopping, bars, restaurants) is 5 minutes from NRG. There are at least six bars on Morningside, between University and Rice Blvd...plus several places to eat.
I would recommend it...

That's a hard lesson to learn.
Killens is only 20 minutes south, and well worth the drive and wait.

Thanks for all the replies! Fat Boy's does look like a cool little place and those Happy Hour deals look perfect for pregaming. Hopefully something cool to do outside of the stadium as well. Had a great time partying last year while the Notre Dame fans stared at us in bewilderment.

Midtown. Not too far from the stadium. There also is a Pappasitos right next to the stadium

Try not to get knifed, shot or rolled.

But for the OP, nothing. Get on the metro train or take a taxi/uber to Midtown or Downtown. Rice Village is another good area as well with restaurants, bars and shopping.
If looking for non food and drinking related there is the Zoo and several museums in the Museum District.

Just don't get caught in a bar on Montrose. You might find yourself in an awkward situation

It's not as big of a wastland as JerryWorld but there isn't much in walking distance. Either go out downtown and then catch the train to the stadium or hang out around Kriby/Rice Village and then drive down to the game. It's a short drive.
