Effectiveness of WiFi extenders...

it seems like most testimonials on Amazon are for using these things in large homes. I would want to use it to go from one adjacent house to the other. The homes are about 10-12ft apart, and the router is about 15 feet from the wall nearest the second home. No brick or any other thick material involved, and the houses are small. As of now, I can actually pick up a single bar (sometimes two) in the second home without an extender. Would an extender be useful?

Yeah, you can put an extender/repeater where it gets a strong signal in the second home, and it should cover the rest of the house with a stronger signal. A cheap repeater with just one radio will cut the bandwidth in half, though. More expensive ones with two radios won't have that problem. Or you could replace the existing router with a better one with longer range.
