Let me say up front that I like Richt, but I think he is a horrible hire.
Look at Miami's history:
Schnellenberger - disciplinarian - Miami's rise to power
Jimmy - disciplinarian on the field - Miami reaches its greatest height
Dennis - player's coach - Momentum from Jimmy carries on a few years but the wheels start to come off
Butch - strong hand - Groundwork for the U's great second act is laid
Coker - weak - after cashing in on Butch's work, the train runs off the tracks
Randy - players' coach - The U fails to regain lost glory
Now Richt a players' coach is going to maintain control over the Dade County culture? I have my doubts.
You left out Al Golden.
I disagree with you. While Richt isn't a disciplinarian he is a good coach and if Miami will give him enough money to hire good assistants the U will be back. Honestly, I think Golden and Randy Shannon could've been successful had the administration given them the money to hire good assistants.

I think Golden was never given a fair shake to show how good of a coach he can be. He was doomed from the start.
I disagree about Shannon, but you may be right. Shall a never wanted a successful football program. Ver shortsighted on how much a top flight team can benefit the school at large.
