A Miles supporter, and positiger, throws in the towel

Why Miles' program is declining.
In my opinion there are two factors that characterize the LSU program now:
1) We recruit players based on early playing time due to poorly staffed position groups. For example, this cycle we're getting highly ranked dline and lbers because we don't return much. This guarantees we are getting players who are running from competition, i.e. Lower character guys.
2) Les is a players' coach, who doesn't discipline much. Many on here decry Saban's yelling at players, but this holding accountable builds mental toughness.
These two factors have resulted in a team that is soft - one that quits in tough situations. The lack of discipline also results in extremely high numbers of penalties and - I suspect - missed assignments.
If LSU gets a coach who is a strong disciplinarian, look for a gigantic exodus of pampered players and a Texas-like meltdown over the next couple of years.
On the other hand, a guy like Jimbo Fisher could be a happy medium who could bring an acceptable level of discipline without breaking the core of the team.
I was in Les' corner until this year's Bama loss. We didn't even belong on the same field as Bama. And it wasn't due to play calling strategy. Hell, every time Bama kicked off they annihilated our kick returners a la Jarvis Landry. That's due to hustle and spirit, not coaching.
This team is sick emotionally. Every recent year has ended that way. This year it just happened sooner and more dramatically.
Les is a great guy, but let's end this talk that he "deserves" better. As others have pointed out, he has never showed loyalty to LSU. On several occassions he used other schools as leverage to increase his earnings. I had no problem with that, nor do I feel LSU owes him any exceptional consideration.
Thanks for your service, Les. Now let's get on with the business of restoring LSU football to the top of the SEC and the nation!

Yep on all accounts. You left out his Qb recruitment philosophy, but otherwise your work is good.

Les's nepotism is a big factor.
Les hires his buddies because he's more comfortable with them.
Hell, I don't know if Les handcuffed Cameron. The point is, our offense is putrid, Cameron is in charge and Cameron was in Les's wedding.
He brought back his buddy Bradley Dale Peveto.
It's obvious Nick Saban can't stand Lane Kiffin personally. But he brought him in because he wants the best offensive coordinator, he's not concerned about being in a personal comfort zone surrounded by his buddies.
I think Les got to believing he was an institution around here who would never be fired, so he could get a little lazy, surround himself with buddies, and do what he wanted no matter the consequences on the field.
I think HE was happy with what some positigers are happy with--8 to 10 win seasons and beating Saban and bama didn't matter.
But make no mistake.
His nepotism was a big reason for the demise of Les Miles's coaching career at LSU.

Well said. A team takes on the personality of their coach. Saban is discipline, accountability and mental toughness. Miles is slow, unimaginative and error prone. Miles teams play that way. Missed assignments, mistakes, poor communication, bad play calling, lack of mid game adjustments and horrible clock management.
It truly is a miracle he won so many games, but it was also bad because he stayed too long...

I tend to like someone in the middle of two extremes

Well, they quit really easily, for sure. Maybe you're onto something there.

Every recent year has ended that way.
Just not true. We had a collapse last year, and it went through the bowl game - of course, we'd already dropped the first 2 SEC games and recovered somewhat, but lost 3 of the last 4.
2013 - lost a shootout @ UGA, and another game @ Oxford - both by 3 points, but we didn't lose a game after Bama, including the bowl.
Perception has always been Miles' Achilles heel - He talks funny and that allows people to make assumptions about him.
There are valid criticisms of Miles - his teams draw a lot of penalties. We have all kinds of crazy timeout and end of game time management SNAFUs. We have problems getting subs in and out - AND that ties into the first 2 problems causing us to use timeouts or get delay penalties.
But, the discipline doesn't quite ring true - academic results show that - what gets forgotten at times is our football graduation rate is second in the conference to Vanderbilt. That doesn't just "happen". Neither does recruiting or winning. Miles does these things as a matter of routine.

Fair enough, and I like Jimbo. Do you recall how unpopular he was as OC here? What has changed?
And, if you like "a guy like Jimbo", what about "a guy like Jason Fuentes" or "a guy like Kliff Klingsbury" - because those are far more likely actual hires than the "deal is done" guys on here and the CC board.
Since I'm confident Miles is damaged through the snake-like actions of Alleva - I mean - how can he come back from this - I sure hope y'all are right and that Jimbo is the choice.
But, when you set yourself up like that, the fall could be perilous.

I saw Miles clapping saying good job when Bama scored on us. I was thinking really!

Miles sucks at QBs and passing schemes. It's that simple. Normally the rest of the team is good.

8 to 10 win
Of course you're aware that Miles won 11 or 13 games 5 of his 10 full seasons here, right? 10 wins is the average season, not the best. He won't get there in 2015, of course, but that's still damned impressive.
Certainly you knew that and are just typing in an emotional state. You can admit it now - you never liked Miles and were never going to like him because he wasn't Saban.

Any grown man still emotional after 5 days of 18 year olds playing football should reconsider their priorities in life.
Penrod's comments were on point. Yours are full of emotion.

Yes, the team realizes, just as it did for the 2012 NC game, that the game plan is not going to work.

We recruit FULLBACKS, for chrissake. That oughtta tell you something right there.

You're right about 2013. We did win out, but we looked bad doing it. If not for a herculean individual performance by Landry we lose to a shitty Arkansas team.
Also, I'm not predicting Jimbo, nor am I particularly hoping for him. I just used him as an example, for obvious reasons, as a type of coach who could hold this program together.

Ace, I love the guy. But this bullshite about 10 wins on average is simply not true anymore. In recent years it's 8 to 10. If Miles stays I give him very little chance at 10 wins next year. I don't know how you win 10 games in the SEC with the linebacker talent we have next year. Our dline will be just as thin as this year, too.

I just don't subscribe to this. If looking "bad" winning or looking "good" losing are my choices, I take winning every time.

The Bama game pissed me off but the Arky game was the tipping point for me but even then I saw it coming. Agree with a lot you have said.
I don't necessarily agree about the character part but we have let LSU turn into a NFL turnstile with many coming to three and out...

In recent years it's 8 to 10.
We won 11 games in 2010 and 13 in 2011. Is recent only going back to 1/9/2012? 10 wins in 2012 and 10 wins in 2013 - look, y'all - I'm pushing 50. It wasn't so long ago that Dinardo and Saban were praised for winning 9 or 10.
Now 10 isn't good enough. In the toughest division in CFB. I got news for you folks - the next guy is going to win 8 to 10 in most seasons - with an occasional 11 to 13 - if...we're...lucky. So you going to fire the next guy the first time he loses 3 in a row? "Next man up."

Yeah, my point is that Landry made the most improbable catch I've ever seen in my life. Without that catch we lose. Of course Miles recruited him, and Miles played him. So if you don't buy that, then I'll sell you this:
2013 was the high water mark of the last four years, and we had three losses. The last two years we're not even a top 25 team! And this is happening to an established coach at a top 10 program with the largest coaching budget in the nation. Come on man. He's 62. That's about the age a man runs out of steam in life. All signs point to a Mack Brown situation if we don't end this now.
