Agree with poster above and it is all dollars and cents. Someone in the Arthletic Dept. has a spreadsheet and knows the break even point of buying out Les's contract and the possibility of say 10% of season ticket holders not renewing. We have obviously hit the point where Les is cheaper to fire than keep.
With a new coach, we fill the stadium next year and keep the revenue rolling.

How do we know this is the case? What if a new coach, breathing life into the program, actually increases season ticket sales? Many fans have been driven into a state of apathy and we would potentially have lost some season ticket sales next year.
