Why is Brandon Harris so bad at short passes?

The little passes to Fournette he overthrows every time. How can his arm be so good but not on the short throws?

His mechanics looked like shite against ole miss.

4 years of HS playing out of the shotgun versus 9 games in college playing under center

Short throws are about footwork and timing. Once you hit that last drop you fire the ball out. He isn't trusting himself at all. On the flare pass that got LF lit he turns and hesitates for a second which all but screamed he was throwing I'm the flats.

He needs to throw the ball with a little touch sometimes. It seems like he always tries to throw the fastball.

The hesitation was to try to hold that corner where he was.

And this means he can't throw the ball 8 yards?

jimbo'll get it fixed

It has been a huge secret, but the truth is that his right leg is shorter than his left leg. That is why everything is high.

I'd advise you to look at that.

But 1 of the biggest issues I've noticed with our short passing game is the concept. We like our WRs to be split out really really wide, and for the running game I understand that. But 1 of the short passing plays we like to run a lot is twins to 1 side, outside WR runs a go and clears out the D, and the inside WR runs an out route. We do this to the wide side of the field a lot. Ball on the left hash, WR runs an out route to the fat sideline. That's 1 of the hardest throws to make in football and that's 1 of or go to plays in the short passing attack. It's a 20+ yard throw for a couple of yards.
Another one out of that twins formations is the inside WR runs a go and clears out the D and the outside WR runs a drag across the middle. The issue with this is that is takes a lot of time for the WR to get across the field to the middle of the field where the bal is designed to go to. With the way our OL has been playing, Harris is getting pressure on him pretty quick and is forced to throw that ball before the play progresses.
We finally started to put our WRs in tight and running quick slants to the middle of the field. Did it a few times vs ole miss. But it's taken that long to incorporate it in our offense. We have little to no west coast offense philosophy in our system. And that's Cam Cameron's system and always has been. Even in 2013 with Mett, OBJ, and Jarvis. Didn't attack the middle of the field that much in the short, quick, passing attack. Not that many "easy yards" in his offense. It's a down the field, vertical passing attack that requires your QB to make some tough throws and takes time to develop.
I like that we want to be a power running team. And I like that we take our shots down the field. Looking at our personnel, that's the type of system our players fit. But when that isn't working and you're having troubles giving your QB time and RB lanes to run through, you gotta find a way to get the ball out of your QBs hand quickly and get something going and sustain drives and pick up a first down here and there. Some games, getting a first time is just as important as getting a TD. We finally showed some of this vs Ole Miss. But it's taken so long to incorporate that into our offense.

He better get his money back from Whitfield's QB camp

He is playing short stop with an outfielders throwing motion.
Also short passes aren't called much, must not be practiced much either ( he doesn't see the open short pass guy).

Again, talent evaluation. He did this same thing in his last high school game vs. Acadiana in the Dome (only time I saw him play). I thought I was going to see Bert Jones going into the game by the way 'LSU' was hyping this guy. I saw a smaller version of Jordan Jefferson and wondered what the hell Miles was thinking ?

Yes QB whisperer, please explain to us what is wrong with his mechanics. I'd be willing to bet you don't know the first thing about a QB'S mechanics

This is why its hard to read this stuff because people have no clue. He spent a quarter of his snaps under center in HS. Give the kid some time, I understand there are a lot of great arm chair coaches here, but he's a sophomore give him some time.

You don't hesitate for that throw. You want the ball in LF'S hands as soon as possible so he can turn up field.
