Who are you voting for?
Political views are a very personal thing about which people tend to have strong views. When people disagree it can lead to tension. In some contexts discussion is appropriate. In most it should be left alone to avoid needless friction.
quote:
How much money do you make?
Purposely displaying that you make more money than some one else can be a way to show that you think you are better than some one. This is a-hole behavior. Moreover there is in most instances no need for you to need to know. It has no effect on you. It is intrusively examining the personal life decisions of another.
quote:
How much did you pay for X?
This can just be an off shoot of the second question. Sometimes it is appropriate.

All of these are legit questions.

My close friends and I talk about what we make... bonuses... job offers. Pretty much everything is on the table because we just don't give a shite what the others think and won't feel judged no matter what we say. It'd be nice if the whole world was that way, but PC/SJW.

Which way do wealthy black people vote?

There are contexts where it is appropriate. I assume you and your buddies are just trying to get a feel for the market, and you feel comfortable with each other to talk about it. Maybe you give advice to each other. I have some friends with whom I do this. But acting like some people wouldn't frame this sort of discussion as a way to show that they are better people, more successful in life, and better providers for their families is plain ignorant.
And LOL at acting like this has anything to do with PC/SJW. It's simple manners to try to recognize people's comfort level with you.

People don't like it when you ask how their wife shaves her vag. I don't get that one.

I'll make 92k this year.
ETA: And I've made as little as 32k when I first entered the workforce.

Go around asking everyone how much they weigh and their sexual proclivites, and when it goes poorly for you you can blame that on PC too.

I think that's my point.
Money and politics is just as sensitive as your wife's vag.
you know what I mean.

I'm not saying go around asking those types of things. We're talking about taboo conversation. Something that's actively avoided. If it comes up, it comes up. People who don't want to talk about it are either insecure or know it's a taboo and don't want to make others feel insecure.
Like I said... I talk about these things with friends.

Fair enough. Maybe the nuance is that it is taboo because people know that they are subjects about which some people will be insecure and sensitive, and it is best to just avoid it to keep from causing waves.
Just have that as the simple catch all to describe all taboo subjects.

don't know your parents well?
Should probably rephrase my answer. I wouldn't ask my parents or anyone of their generation bc it's much more of an insult to them than it is for us. It's considered disrespectful to them, and as they are my elders and I want to respect them, I wouldn't ask them. My generation on the other hand, I would feel ok to ask if I knew them well
