It was just two years ago that the USMNT was on a record-setting winstreak and was just one year ago that we were more visually appealing than Portugal in the World Cup.

But then, all of the sudden, the calendar turns to the 2015 and we are getting beat by Jamaica and bunkering for our lives against Panama and Costa Rica on home soil.

We all know Jurgen sucks as a tactician... but his tactics sucked in 2013 & 14, too, yet we still overcame it for the most part. And in terms of player pool these last three years, there hasn't been THAT much turnover (moreso than usual at least) and it's not like the younger guys that have broken through have been major downgrades to those they replaced.

I just don't get it.

Output from Bradley has dropped tremendously.

No Donovan.

Jones is getting too old.

Outside of the Gold Cup, he wasn't in the picture in 13-14.

The fan base has grown to include a vast number of virtual football managers who incorrectly think that they know better.

I call them the FIFA generation, and they are truly miserable.

That's great... but it has absolutely nothing to do with the USMNT's quality of play taking a severe dip.

Well that comment is not grounded in reality, so what's the point in debating it?

This is the crux of the issue.

The USMNT was able to overcome the manager's tactics by a few key moments of brilliance like John Brooks' header and Tim Howard making a record number of saves. The USMNT did not make it out of the group stage BECAUSE of Jurgy's brilliant tactics and exclusion of Donovan; they made it out of the group stage IN SPITE of these factors.

The USMNT hasn't been able to overcome the manager's tactics as of late. Moreover, the manager's tactics and judgments have become even worse. Bedoya as a 6? Alvarado as CB? This level of bizarreness was not present in 2014.

Do you want to know what has changed?

CONCACAF as a whole is getting stronger, and a lot of that has to do with the MLS.

So, just to be clear, you're saying the USMNT is just as good now as it was in 2013 & 2014?

Why have other nations in CONCACAF gotten stronger with the exception of the US?

All teams have peaks and valleys, and you're severely over stating our current dip in form.

How so?

Finishing fourth in the Gold Cup is pretty damning.

Yeah I don't think it's possible to overstate our dip in form.

I strongly disagree. Dropping a third place game to a side like Panama is not really that big of a deal.

Well, then you should stick to playing FIFA I guess.

No, I'll continue to objectively watch and cheer for the national team like I have been doing for close to 20 years now.

Ok, humor me, why do disagree that it isn't a concern that the US finished fourth in the Gold Cup?

Because I refuse to get worked up over losing a consolation game against Panama. Anyone who watched the Copa America knew that Jamaica was going to be a tough out. We had a few bad games in a row. It happens.

It's never as good or as bad as it seems.
