There is pretty much never a "good" time to fire a coach

I mean, hey, short of a situation where you coach is faltering and one of the top coaching studs of the world reaches out to you, firing a coach is ALWAYS a rough deal.
That said, there is no getting around the only thing worse than having to find another coach after firing yours is waiting too long to fire your coach and having to find another one.
If you wait too long, you usually have waited for 2-3 recruiting classes to falter like holy hell. Case in point, if we lose Franks, that right there is a significant blow that may take another coach 2-3 years to overcome. That scares off potential new coaches and then, even the ones willing to take the job will have to overcome the recruiting hole.
So, for those of you saying, "well, who would you hire", I'm sorry. You really don't have a valid point. Of course no one can be SURE we'll get the right guy. But I'm sorry, those of you thinking no good coach would want to come are nuts. LSU has routinely had top 10 classes as far as the eye can see. Do you know how few coaching jobs open annually that fit that bill? I mean, not saying we'd get TCU's coach, but have you checked out what get signs annually? Suddenly having access to LSU type recruiting class is a good coach's wet dream.

5 straight losses to Bama and 2 straight to Arkansas is a good place to start.

I'd be curious how many teams this applies to
They've had a hell of a run since 2009

Unless LSU loses these last two games (and in a fashion similar to the Ala. and Ark. games), I honestly don't see how LSU can "fire" Les Miles. And I say that not only b/c of the buyout, although that's the biggest hindrance.
Rather, I would pray to God that somebody could convince Les to step down, retire, resign, for the good of the program. I've read other threads that stated that LSU can choose to pay the buyout over an extended period ... perhaps something for a lower lump sum could be negotiated.
Les lost me this last game. I convinced my buddy, no, let's not leave, let's see what the offense does on this drive. Two penalties, absolutely zero sense of urgency. When you throw in the well-documented clock management issues over the years, look folks, it's just time. Yeah, I know Alleva could really frick this up, but I think LSU can't afford to take a chance.

In fact, my point was that if a coach is on track to be fired, the sooner you pull the trigger, the better.

Have you checked 247 lately?

Don't we have one of the highest paid staffs in the country? I think we'll be able to find someone good.

the OP is exactly right, there's never a good time. But waiting too long is the worst alternative.

But, I'll be stunned if this season doesn't cost us Franks.
And, there's no sense even talking about getting rid of Cam or Steele because no half decent coordinator is going to sign on to a possible sinking ship.
In fact, I think that's why we have Cam and Steele in the first place. Especially Steele.
No one wanted to admit it.........but the fact that Chavis was trying to gain job security in his contract was EXTREMELY telling. And, if you didn't buy that reality, the fact that we settled for a guy who probably wouldn't have gotten another top 30 DC job this year of LSU doesn't hire him should REALLY tell you.
If coaches perceived Miles as a winner and long term stable, we would be taking calls, not begging.

And, my money is on Franks to bolt. I don't want him too, but, if you made me bet...........

Firing the HC or OC is the one thing that will guarantee he will.

But, you're right. If either are gone, so will he. I get that.
It's sort of a glass half empty situation either way. Miles stinks. I really can't speak to if Cam stinks because frankly, the pathetic approach to offense predates him.
Besides, like I said. Firing Cam would be stupid. No good OC in his right mind would sign on with Miles right now.

Jamarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, and Zach Mettenberger were all drafted by NFL teams and Brandon Harris has shown that he will join that group if he continues the development he made this year.
Blake Sims is playing in the Canadian Football League and Nick Marshall is a defensive back. Believe it or not, most high school quarterbacks have aspirations to play in the NFL and LSU is just as successful as any in terms of getting them there.

Russell and Flynn played at LSU when Franks was 11 and younger. They might as well be YA Tittle. Mett is all he can remember and tart was year sandwiched between a series of shite shows
