Running from the Shotgun Formation

Is this strategy simply a result of Gordon and Moore being out? Obviously, those two were key in terms of our power running game this season out of the I-Formation.
Just seems really odd to basically throw out what has worked for much of the season and gotten you to this point. Also, it doesn't seem like Harris is running the zone read. Seems more like a called hand off, or a called QB keeper. Harris' longest run last night was TWO YARDS. Think about that.
Of course, Alabama and Arkansas are the two best run defenses we have faced all season, but I'm not going to completely chalk our struggles up to that (more specifically against Arkansas). Fournette notched 91 yards last night, and the vast majority of those were hard-earned. There were one or two runs all night where there was a hole for him.
Is Mouton just not up to par, at this point in his career? What matchup advantages do we see in trying to get Fournette to run outside the tackles?
Lots of issues with the team, right now. There needs to be a lot of changes, and it's time to start looking hard at the top.

Since we sucked against Bama we decided to abandon that plan apparently.

i lol'd when blackledge kept saying desean being out was affecting our run game.
yea not having a hybrid TE we never use is killing us!
harris just doesn't look comfortable running the zone read most of the time, though more often than not he does make the right read
i want to see us run out of a single back set with harris under center. brb going play ncaa 11

It seems like Miles always makes adjustments the week after. Everyone begged for him to spread out Bama and then we come out 3 wide and shotgun against Arky.
It didn't work either.
Nothing works for this offense all of a sudden.

And, of course, we throw the ball on our first three 1st down plays.
All incompletions. Just like last week, we got ourselves into 2nd and long way too much.
We're trying to throw for first downs on 1st down. That's what I don't get. Throw a quick little 3-5 yard pass and get some yardage and don't get behind the chains. Just seems so simple, yet our coaches don't get it.

We need to run the offense though Fournette still. That's clear. The more influence Harris has, the worse we play right now. That is really due to the fact that we don't trust our qbs and it hinders their progression.

That's exactly what they did against South Carolina, and had success.
The main issue is the playcalling in the single back. We went away from the quick passes, when it was obvious that the line was never gonna hold up for the longer developing plays.

Why don't we trust our QB's and why does this last of trust hinder their progression?

Remember that Harris fumble? He whiffed on the blitz pickup.

South Carolina is the worst rushing defense in the conference, though.
I agree with this. We were throwing on first down, but trying to throw the ball down field, at least in the beginning.
Once we got down 21-0, we started throwing those quick slants and getting the ball out quick, and it worked. Go figure. Harris looked really bad in the longer-developing plays, as you alluded.

I know Mouton isn't good. I just didn't want to call him bad in the OP, because that's frowned upon.

Our coaches get it, Jesus, they get it man.
We can't, go back and watch Harris in the pocket, watch him on all touch passes, especially with any pressure. He can't.
We have had a great short passing game under Miles and Cam was very successful in San Diego and Baltimore throwing to the RB's underneath and setting up screens. They get it bud but thanks for paying attention and please keep your eye out for anything else you pick up on.

our rushing game was overrated somewhat
early on we had struggles in the running game when getting consistency, even against shitty teams. LF would bust that big play and open it up, though
like i said for weeks. it's not going to be the same when we face teams with talent + scheme, and without those big arse runs, we just don't have a running game out of our "power" sets. there is a reason nobody else runs that shite as their primary offense anymore.

So you're saying the Miles/Cameron offense needs an NFL quarterback in order for it to be successful?
Why can't we develop a quarterback?
Why can't we develop a quarterback?

I don't know why we don't trust them...you would have to ask Cam. Our qbs are not allowed to make checks at the line...Cam makes them. They are not given control, which influences the tempo. They don't understand hot reads...outlets...basic shite. I would just imagine a near 2 year qb in a system to have some of this freedom and some of this figured out. Cam controls the game rather than being a tool to help his qbs learn how to control and win games.

not since crowton left
and even then we eliminate short passing over the middle b/c of 2008 catastrophe syndrome

Certainly.

Would you agree that it didn't seem like we were running the zone read last night? Just called one way or the other.
I'd rather get in the I-Formation and run it that way than do the shite we did last night.

He's not good? Based on what, one game? One missed block? Have you looked at the game film yet? How many blocks did he miss/make> What was his assignment on that play? How many missed assignments did he miss all game?
Posted on 11/15/15 at 9:51 am to BayouBengals03
I don't get the we miss Gordon part that is hurting our running game. Didn't he miss the whole start of the season pretty much with his injury?

No I wouldn't. Harris clearly struggled with the correct read. He will get better hopefully.
