The mayor of Hialeah tried to pay his $4,000 fine from a Ponzi scheme with 28 buckets of pennies, the Miami Herald reports.
In July, Mayor Carlos Hernandez was found guilty by the Miami-Dade County ethics commission for “lying” to the community about his involvement in a Ponzi scheme. He was accused of receiving 36 percent interest in private loans from Perez, “which is considered loansharking,” according to the Miami Herald.

Hernandez sent the Miami-Dade County Commission his buckets of pennies on Thursday, but the commission declined the payment and said they only accept checks, according to the Miami Herald.

Yeah it's legal tender but he was just being an arse. He was involved in a Ponzi scheme so he is a tpos.

Better question is why he only got a $4000 fine and how he kept his job.

A lot government agencies only take checks or M/Os, but now a lot of them are accepting debit cards
