it would be nice if that's all it took. when we first put it back together we didn't get them on tight enough and they worked loose.
I'm always amazed at actually how loud an un-muffled engine is. Exhaust systems are pretty interesting. There's really a lot going on there. They have to be tuned to the particular engine to work properly.

Their job is only really to let the engine breathe. Mufflers restrictions this but are needed to cut down on noise, Cats restrict this further and are needed for emissions. Rattling is usually a loose weld or a bad hanger.
