People complain and forget other places don't have to deal with the giant fricking river that you need to put a 140 foot high bridge across.

The Mississippi doesn't run between numerous other states? Is it the only body of water in the country that cars aren't able to drive over without a bridge?

Brainstorming the solution keeping your point in mind really should have started 30 years ago. That, and a very non-utilitarian city council that probably receives kickbacks to vote down anything within the city.
