Exact same thing just happened to me this week. Received a notice that I was delinquent on 2 cars and that I owed $1000 a $1300.
I moved to Texas 4 years ago and transferred my cars to the state as well. Turned in my Louisiana plates when I left at that time. I didn't keep the records because I never thought it was a big deal.
The state mailed my letter to my parents house, which I haven't lived in for over 15 years.
What aggravates me is that they will escalate collections to a wage garnishment level of I don't pay.
